THE BANK PROJECT
Ten years have passed since 2008 when Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and the economic crisis began to unfold. Today there are more retail banks in New York City than ever before.
This project is about these banks; how they advance into the public space, dominate the buildings they stand within, and imposed themselves onto the streets. These pictures utilize straight photography and are made with a 4x5 camera without post-production or in-camera manipulation to describe the scale, space and light of these sites within the existing landscape and in inspired by Le Carceri d'Invenzione, Imaginary Prisons by
Giovanni Battista Piranesi, (1720–1778).
